Youngsters taking part in the round the beacons charity walk in May 1969. I took part myself in the walk which was 24 miles long and involved hiking around Billinge beacon to Ashurst beacon and Parbold beacon back to Wigan Rugby Union Club via Standish. This section is on Ormskirk Road, Newtown, with the Bird i'th Hand pub on the left and Douglas Garage in the background. On the right is Trentham Street. Photo: Frank Orrell
