CATHERINE Tyldesley and her fiance Tom Pitfield are preparing for 50km hike across the Brecon Beacons for charity.

The pair will be joined by fellow Coronation Street actresses Tisha Merry and Katie McGlynn, (Steph Britton and Sinead Tinker), on June 4, to raise money for Parkinson’s UK and the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity.

Catherine, who plays Eva in the popular ITV soap, told TV Times: “I’m very much into my fitness, but I usually do high intensity stuff in short intervals, so this is an entirely different kind of training.

“Me and Tom love going on walks with Alfie, but normally we’ll just go for an hour or two, whereas now, we’ll have to really build ourselves up. So we’ll probably head over to the Lake District or the Peak District.

“I love challenging myself. I think it’s good to do something each year that scares you a little bit – you know, feel the fear and do it anyway.”

Catherine also spoke about wedding plans as she is to marry Standish-born Tom this spring.

She told Closer: “Both mine and Tom’s parents celebrated their ruby wedding anniversaries last year. We are really hopeful that we’ll take a leaf out of their books and that we’ll have a long and happy marriage.

“From three months in I was sure I wanted to stay with him. I’m normally really indecisive, but it was clear to me that he is The One.”

She added that she hopes her character Eva marries her new love interest, Aidan Connor, played by Shayne Ward: “I’d be so thrilled! Fingers crossed Miss Price will become Mrs Connor. I’d love a wedding; I think it would be a cross between My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and Cheshire Housewives!”

Catherine will take centre stage in an upcoming Coronation Street plotline tackling child slavery, adding it will break new ground for soap operas. Eva will find Polish runaway Marta hiding at the factory after she been kept as an unpaid worker by the O’Driscolls, who are wealthy clients of Underworld.

She said: “It’s an interesting storyline to be involved in and not something that’s really been done in a soap before.”
