The annual guide, released by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and on sale today, offers an insight into pubs, bars and clubs. It highlights venues selected by its members "as places to savour good beers from small breweries as well as cask-conditioned lagers and world beers and some pubs are highlighted for serving real ciders too". Here are 19 of the Wigan borough bars that feature in the 50th edition of the guide and what CAMRA said about each of them.

The bar offers seven cask pumps, six keg taps, three boxed ciders and a selection of gins, spirits and wines, alongside a decent craft can range to drink in or take away. Upstairs there are two comfortable lounge areas, one of which is air-conditioned. There is also a small covered smoking area at the back. Beers are generally sourced from small regional microbrewers and are competitively priced. A real-time beer list is available online." Photo: google street view
12. Hare and Hounds
Hare and Hounds, 31 Ladies Lane, WN2 2QA.
CAMRA said: "This small but traditional pub is located between Hindley railway station and the town centre. There is a large, comfortable lounge, a distinct bar/vault area and a charming beer garden to the rear. The lounge displays pictures from bygone Hindley and has a largescreen TV for sports. The pub is home to darts and dominoes teams playing in the local leagues." Photo: Google street view
