This is what the 'average' house price can buy you across England
House prices are on the up according to the latest data – but there are still huge differences across the country.
The latest UK House Price Index, for November 2020, says house prices in England are up 7.6 per cent in the year to November 2020, to an average of £266,742.
House price growth was strongest in Yorkshire and The Humber and London where prices increased by 9.7 per cent in the year to November 2020, to an average of £180,856, while the lowest annual growth was in the East of England, where prices increased by 4.8 per cent in the year to November 2020, to an average of £302,624.
The cheapest average price was in the North-East, at £140,248, while, unsurprisingly, London had the highest average price, at £513,997.
Here are some of the properties you could get for the English and regional average prices, from a one-bedroom flat in the London Borough of Greenwich to a seven-bedroom detached home in Northumberland.
