See how a former Wigan police station on Coronation Street has been transformed into homes

To TV soap fans, 2 Coronation Street is better known as Audrey Roberts’s hair salon, but in Ince, it’s a former police station which has been converted into an arresting ground-floor apartment.

Part of the same building is 492 Warrington Road, a three-storey mews property with three bedrooms.

And if you’re combing the area for a quirky but well-presented home, both of these definitely fit the bill.

Built in around 1900, the buildings at Spring View ceased to be used as a police station for almost 15 years following a radical shake-up of Greater Manchester Police’s ageing property stock and was first put on the market as long ago as December

2006.

It came up at several auctions over the years but failed to sell.

But now, finally, the sturdy premises have been bought and given a smart new lease of life.

Putting the case forward for 2 Coronation Street, Andrew Parker, managing director at SDL Auctions, said: “This is a really smart apartment which has been finished to a high standard while retaining some unusual original features.

“Where else can you find a bathroom with the added security of a barred door or a walk-in wardrobe complete with a food hatch?

“They may not necessarily be features on your ‘must-have’ list but they are definitely great talking points.”

The bright and airy apartment, which has a guide price of £100,000, is one of four unique properties which have been created following the high-spec makeover of the old Ince police station.

The larger mews property, 492 Warrington Road, has a guide price of £130,000.
