THEATRE REVIEW - Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

The critics were universal in their praise and enthusiasm.

And that high praise was so very well deserved.

Now the touring version has arrived at its second venue, Manchester Opera House, and was welcomed with open arms.

It’s true the cast has changed. Now, we have acclaimed actor Michael Praid playing the sophisticated conman, and former Hear’Say singer Noel Sullivan proves his excellent acting skills. Everybody’s favourite Mark Benton delights and is wildly amusing.

The story is of a trio of high-class conmen in the South of France and their “adventures” with women with more money than sense. Scoundrels these men are and no mistake. But nice with it. It’s true, they shouldn’t fall in love but they do. All with hilarious consequences.

The story is totally infused with the fun elements, and all is played out in magnificent lighting replicating that in the South of France.

The plot twists and turns, always has the ability to surprise and at times the whole stage is capacity filled with magnificently costumes dancers.

“Scoundels” is that rare delight – a brand new musical. Believe me, it’s set to run and run.
