Abandoned hospital baby witness appeal

Police investigating the attempted murder of a baby who was found in the toilets of Wigan Infirmary are appealing for nine potential witnesses.

Shortly after 12am on Wednesday July 6 police were called to the hospital to reports that a new born baby boy had been found in the toilets of A&E.

The baby was found by security staff at the hospital and taken into the A&E ward where he was resuscitated and is now doing well.

His mother, Orsolya Anmaria Balogh has since been charged with attempted murder.

The 26-year-old appeared in front of Manchester Magistrates last Saturday and was remanded in custody ahead of her next court date at Liverpool Crown on August 5.

Police are now appealing for the public’s help to identify nine potential witnesses who used the same public toilets at the hospital between 10pm and midnight.

Detective Constable Kevin Telford from GMP’s Wigan borough said: “This is an awful situation, I am just so happy that the baby boy was found and will make a full recovery.

“We are now hoping to speak to the people who used the same toilets between 10pm and midnight. These people could provide vital information to help with our investigation.”
