Appeal after dead dog found

The RSPCA is appealing for information after a dog was found dead in a stream in a park, with suspicious injuries.

The dog - a large female bull breed - was discovered in Lilford Park, in Leigh, on Sunday March 20.

She had injuries to her face and neck.

She was microchipped which has revealed that she was called ‘Roxy’.

RSPCA chief inspector Cathy Hyde said: “We don’t know how Roxy died at the moment, as a post mortem hasn’t been conducted, but we are very concerned about what happened to her and are doing all we can to find out.

“We have made a number of enquiries based on the information from Roxy’s microchip, which are continuing.

“We’d like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around Lilford Park on the night of Saturday March 19 or who has any information about where Roxy was between early December and the date her body was found,” said RSPCA chief inspector Hyde.

“Please call the RSPCA’s inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”

Neutering 4 Paws, who recovered Roxy’s body, is inviting people to attend Lilford Park tomorrow (Saturday) at 6pm for a vigil.

Everyone is welcome to attend to lay flowers on the spot where she died.
