Shocking statistics have revealed many mums won’t get a lie-in, a day off, or even receive a gift at all on Sunday.

A survey of 1,053 British mothers revealed 47 per cent won’t be doing anything on the special day, a third won’t get a lie-in, whilst almost one in ten mums won’t be handed a present at all.

Of those polled by Sizzling Pubs and Crown Carveries, 43 per cent of mums have received a lousy Mother’s Day gift but were too polite to express their true feelings.

Cheap toiletries topped the list as the worst offenders (42 per cent), ahead of the infamous last minute garage flowers (33 per cent).

But, appallingly, eight per cent of mums receive no gesture at all.

Only a quarter of mums are confident of getting a richly deserved lie-in, with a third acknowledging that their “lie-in” will be over by 8am.

Mums’ have listed their modest wishes for the big day - with one in eight preferring their gift to be totally cost-free.

It seems ‘flashy’ gifts are not top of many mums wish lists after it was revealed the most sought after ‘gift’ was a meal all together as a family (33 per cent), just ahead of handmade presents (17 per cent).

Juliet Oosthuysen, of Sizzling Pubs and Crown Carveries, said: “Mother’s Day is all about celebrating families and the vital role that mothers play at their centre.

“Our research confirms that what mums really want on this special day is to spend quality time with their family, something which can be all too rare when you are trying to juggle busy lives.
