Armed robbery at convenience store

TWO men threatened a shopkeeper with a handgun and a hammer during a terrifying robbery.

The two robbers stormed into M Singhs convenience store, in Elswick, Skelmersdale, armed with the weapons, shortly before 6.30pm on January 28.

As they demanded money, they pushed the staff member before removing a small amount of cash from the till and some spirits from behind the counter.

They then fled the scene in an unknown direction.

The first man who went inside the shop was described as white, aged around 18 to 19 years old, medium build, approximately 5ft 6in tall and was wearing a grey scarf and blue waterproof jacket and black gloves.

The second man was described as white, aged around 18 to 19 years old, approximately 6ft tall, of a skinny build and was wearing all black clothing with a scarf covering his head.

Another man was seen approaching the shop but did not enter.

DI Joanne Keay of South CID said: “This must have been extremely frightening for the shop keeper who has understandably been left shocked by what happened. “The shop is regularly used by children and thankfully no one was harmed during the incident.

“It appears to have been a targeted attack and we would like to reassure the community that incidents involving firearms such as this one are rare. An investigation is already underway and we are determined to find those responsible.

“If anyone has any information about what happened or who was in the vicinity at the time and witnessed any suspicious activity, I would urge them to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
