Biker, 18, in critical condition after crash

A Wigan motorcyclist is fighting for his life after a road accident.

The 18-year-old victim has been named locally as Callum Evans, a trainee accountant and a keen biker. He is in a critical condition following the collision between his bike and a car on Glazebrook Lane, Culcheth, at 8.20am yesterday morning.

Fire crews from Birchwood and Salford were called to the scene along with paramedices from the North West Ambulance Service and an Air Ambulance.

In a statement, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “One man was trapped underneath the car. Firefighters used cutting gear and a long board to release the casualty as he was given trauma care by a firefighter and paramedic. The casualty was taken to hospital by air ambulance.”

Cheshire Police confirmed that the victim was airlifted to Wythenshawe Hospital by air ambulance where he is recieveing treatment for his injuries.

Well-wishers have taken to social media to wish Callum a speedy recovery.

Callum’s aunt, Vicky Frost, wrote: “He’s made a slight improvement from yesterday. But still a long long way to go. It’s a very very difficult time. There’s just no words.”

Megan Aspinall said: “Get well very soon wishing you all the luck on a full recovery.”

Connor Kay wrote: “Hope you pull through mate! My love goes out to your family and friends.”
