Collision leaves motorcyclist in critical condition

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision which has left a motorcyclist in a critical condition.

Around 4.50pm yesterday (Thursday, July 26) a Ssangyong Rexton car was travelling northbound on the A570 Rainford bypass.

As the vehicle slowed to turn close to Quattros Restaurant, a second vehicle slowed and travelled past the Ssangyong on the nearside.

A Yamaha motorcycle, approaching from behind, was then involved in a collision with the Ssangyong.

The biker, a 22-year-old man from Skelmersdale, suffered a serious head injury and broken arm.

He was taken to Aintree Hospital is currently in a critical but stable condition.

The driver of the Ssangyong, a 63-year-old man from Rainford, was not injured.

The road was closed for more than four hours while accident investigators attended the scene.

Lancashire Police are now appealing for information and are keen to trace the driver of the second vehicle.

Sgt Tracey Ward, of Lancashire Police, said: “An investigation is underway following a serious collision in Bickerstaffe.

“We are keen to speak to any witnesses and in particular want to trace the driver of the second vehicle.

“Anyone with information can contact police on 101 quoting log 1137 of July 26.”
