The Cherries Community garden conker championships took place at the weekend - the latest evert on the restored land alongside the Cherry gardens pub.
Coun Michael McLoughlin, who was one of the contestants, said: “The main achievement of the day was bringing the community together ... young and not so young.
“People and children out in the open air without anybody thumbing data into a keypad. Quite a few dogs graced the event with their presence and they seemed to be enjoying themselves too.
“The organisers even fed those who attended. It was a splendid effort by them.”
