Congestion warning ahead of M6 slip road weekend closure

Highways England have announced there will be a full closure of the junction 34 Lancaster exit slip road from 8pm on Friday up to 6am on Monday October 12 to aid of construction of the newly-reconfigured Bulk Green junction.

The closure is part of Lancashire County Council’s £124 million Heysham Link project that is due to be completed next summer.

During the closure, southbound M6 drivers wishing to leave at junction 34 will instead be sent to junction 33 at Galgate – leaving there to join the northbound M6 and travelling back to junction 34 where they can exit the motorway from the northbound exit slip.

And a spokesman for HE urged people to take extra time just incase of congestion.

They said: “Drivers should leave extra time to complete journeys.”

Engineers have adapted the works to keep the southbound entry open throughout the weekend, so drivers heading south on the M6 from Caton Road (A683) will not be affected.

A temporary two-way set of traffic lights will also be set-up on Caton Road (A683) as part of the traffic management needed for the work over the weekend.

The single-lane running will be set up on Caton Road (A683), through the existing southbound slip road junction.
