A restraining order and suspended jail term are handed down to a Standish man for a nasty assault

A Wigan man cleared of robbery after he admitted to an assault has received a suspended prison sentence.

Both Shaun Carter, 46, of Glebe Street, Standish, and Natalie Todd, 44, of Car Bank Street, Atherton, had pleaded not guilty to a mugging when they appeared at Bolton Crown Court in 2024 and a trial this autumn was fixed.

But when the moment came Carter admitted to causing actual bodily harm to the complainant and the robbery allegations against both of them were discharged.

Todd was made a subject of a two-year restraining order preventing contact with the victim and now Carter has returned to court for his sentence of 12 months in custody, suspended for 18 months.

He must complete 100 hours of unpaid work and his restraining order preventing contact with the victim extends to five years.
