A crown court trial was aborted when the two Wigan men in the dock accused of cocaine dealing changed their pleas to guilty

A trial has been axed after two Wigan men finally admitted to drug-dealing allegations dating back more than four years.

Paul Leyland, 36, of Holme Terrace in Swinley, and Damien Birchall, 41, of Queen Street in Orrell, had appeared before a Bolton Crown Court judge to plead not guilty to possessing both class A cocaine and class C substance diazepam with intent to supply them, along with cash deemed to be criminal proceeds on November 25 2021.

A trial was scheduled to take place this month, but before it could begin, they both changed their pleas on the cocaine dealing to guilty, Birchall in fact admitting to two counts.

They had previously admitted to possessing crack cocaine and a knife at a magistrates' court hearing.

The charges of diazepam dealing and criminal property possession, along with one of driving along the M6 at Warrington in an Audi A3 without insurance on August 7 last year will lie on file.

Sentencing is scheduled to take place on October 12.
