Duo arrested after man stabbed outside primary school

Two men are in custody and another is in hospital after a man was stabbed near a borough primary school.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was attacked yesterday, June 3, in Darlington Street, Tyldesley, outside St George's Primary School.

Police cars and ambulances were pictured on the school grounds after the emergency services raced to the scene yesterday afternoon.

The victim, who police say was deliberately targeted, was taken to hospital with serious but "non life-threatening" injuries, where he remains in a stable condition.

Two men, aged 35 and 29, have been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Police were called shortly after 4.45pm on Wednesday 3 June 2020 to reports of a man in his 20s being stabbed on Darlington Street in the Tyldesley area of Wigan.

"The man sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and has been taken to hospital for treatment – where he remains in a stable condition.

"Detectives believe the attack was targeted and there is no threat to the wider community.

"Two men – aged 35 and 29 – have been arrested on suspicion on wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

"An investigation is underway.

"Anyone with any information should call police on 0161 856 7770 quoting incident 2092 of 03/06/2020. Details can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
