Man’s abuse was racially aggravated

A man has appeared in court after a racist incident in Preston on January 18.

Mark Nickson, of Fishergate Hill, Preston city centre, admitted a charge of using threatening or abusive behaviour against a man, which was racially aggravated.

The 50-year-old defendant also admitted two counts of using abusive behaviour ,in relation to two women in the same incident.

Preston Magistrates’ Court ordered him to have treatment for alcohol dependency for six months, and imposed a rehabilitation activity requirement.

The court imposed a restraining order to prevent Nickson having contact with his victims and stop him entering an address in the Fishergate Hill area of Preston.

The bench took his guilty pleas into account and ruled he must pay a £50 fine, an £85 victim surcharge, and £150 costs.

Driver failed to take legal breaks

A truck driver has appeared in court over flouting minimum rest rules.

Thomas David Wigan, of Willow Place, Elswick, near Preston, was stopped by officials at the Cureden M65 checkpoint in September 2016.

The 26-year-old admitted a string of six offences relating to failing to have a the minimum 45 minute break when he had driven from more than four and a half hours, which is in contravention of Drivers’ Hours Regulation.

Chorley Magistrates’ Court ordered him to pay a £900 fine for offences committed in August and September.

He must also pay a £30 victim surcharge, and prosecution costs of £200.

The magistrates bench was told Wigan had driven for more than five and a half hours without a break.

Geoffrey Haase, 40, of Lydia Street, Accrington, was jailed for 49 days after admitting using threatening behaviour, and causing £3,000 damage at HMP Preston.

Mark Lord, 42, of Blackpool Road, Ribbleton, Preston, admits stealing clothing, to the value of £143, belonging to Next and was given a curfew and an £85 surcharge.

Paul Whittle, 43, of Blackpool Road, Preston, admits stealing £84 of cosmetics from Boots and must pay a £30 surcharge.Chris Dillon, 39, of

Larchwood Crescent, Leyland, was found guilty of failing to give driver information and must pay a £120 fine, £30 surcharge and £100 costs.

Fareed Al Hussaini, 41, of Ring Way, Preston, was found guilty of failing to give driver information and must pay a £660 fine, £66 surcharge and £85 costs.

Joseph Sullivan, 32, of Alder Road, Ribbleton, Preston, admits damaging a window and must pay £100 compensation, £85 surcharge and £85 costs.

Adam Powell, 29, of Dyer Street, Kirkham, had a restraining order extended for two years after admitting breaching it, and must pay a £290 fine, £30 surcharge and £85 costs.

Maria Ann Basford, 30, of Ribbleton Lane, Preston, was given a curfew after being found guilty of assaulting a man, and must pay £50 compensation, an £85 surcharge, and £300 costs.

Stuart Ashton, 43, of Dovedale Close, Ingol, Preston, was found guilty of failing to give driver information and must pay a £660 fine, £66 surcharge and £85 costs.

John Bland, 50, of Arnside Tower Farm, Silverdale, near Lancaster, admits using a vehicle with faulty tyres and must pay an £80 fine and £85 costs.
