John Banks, 56, of Sefton Road, Ashton, was breathalysed when police stopped a Mini Cooper on Edge Green Lane, on March 22.
He gave a reading of 112 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
Wigan magistrates told Banks he can reduce the disqualification to 26 weeks by completing a drink-drivers course.
But he must also complete 80 hours’ unpaid work.
