A man has appeared before borough magistrates accused of begging in Wigan town centre.

A man has appeared before borough magistrates accused of begging in Wigan town centre.

Roy Smalley, 51, of Heath Street, Golborne, is charged with gathering alms in Standishgate on July 7 in contravention of the 1824 Vagrancy Act.

He has yet to plead and was released on bail until October 28 on condition that he does not enter Standishgate, Market Place or Wallgate before then unless he has an appointment with his solicitor.
