Man arrested after weapon found in stolen car

Police in the borough stopped the car after it was seen driving at speed.

The incident happened in the Higher Folds area of Leigh on Tuesday night.

Police who pulled the Renault over found it was being driven by an uninsured provisional licence holder.

Checks on the car established it had been stolen in Rochdale and had false number plates on.

A weapon, together with a second key, were found in the vehicle.

A man was arrested and taken into custody for questioning.
