Man found guilty of abusing young girls

A young borough man has been cleared of raping two infant school-aged girls but convicted of sexually assaulting them instead.

Paul Grime had been charged with three counts of raping a six-year-old and one of assaulting her by penetration, between July 5 2016 and July 4 2017.

The 27-year-old of Everest Road in Atherton, also faced a charge of raping a five-year-old girl during the same time period. But after a seven-day trial at Bolton Crown Court, Grime was found not guilty of the rape offences.

However the jury did return guilty verdicts to alternative charges of sexually assaulting the youngsters.

Grime will be sentenced by a judge at the same court on January 12.
