Man suffers life-changing injuries after car ends up on its roof in M6 crash

Police are trying to piece together events which led to a car flipping over on its roof during a collision on the M6.

Lancashire Police say a Nissan Qashqai flipped on its roof on the southbound carriageway, close to J35, in the early hours of Friday March 13. No other vehicles were involved and the driver, a man in his 30s, was fortunate to only suffer minor injuries.

His passenger, another man in his 30s, suffered spinal fractures and remains in hospital.

A 31-year-old man from Aberdeen was also arrested at the scene on suspicion of possessing class A drugs, driving under the influence of drink/drugs, dangerous driving and driving, and has since been released under investigation.

Detectives are now asking anyone who might have seen the incident to come forward with information.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "We are appealing for information following a collision on the M6 on Friday (March 13th).

"We were called shortly after 3.30am to reports a silver Nissan Qashqai had ended up on its roof on the southbound carriageway close to junction 35. No other vehicles were believed to have been involved.

"We attended and found the driver, a man aged in his 30s, had suffered minor injuries.

"The passenger, a man aged in his 30s, had suffered spinal fractures and remains in hospital.

"A 31-year-old man from Aberdeen was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession of class A drugs, driving under the influence of drink/drugs, dangerous driving and driving – excess drugs. He has since been released under investigation."

PC Marc Saysell, of the Lancashire Police TacOps Team, said: “This collision left a man with life-changing injuries and we are working hard to establish exactly what occurred.
