Man with spear in car park spared jail

Bolton Crown Court heard that Nicholas Taylor, of Church Street, Leigh, was arrested after being seen outside the library on St Mary’s Way on April 24 toting a long stick with a blade fixed to the end. He had already admitted possessing an offensive weapon before Wigan justices and a Bolton judge sentenced him to six months’ jail suspended for two years. Taylor must also attend a nine-month alcohol dependency programme and complete 25 days’ rehab activities.
