Manhunt after man stabbed in Wigan

A major police operation has been launched after a man was stabbed in Wigan.

The 33-year-old is said to be in a serious condition after the brutal attack in Harrison Street, Newtown, at teatime.

Bleeding heavily from multiple stab wounds, the victim managed to stagger to the Queen's Arms on the same street from where the emergency services were called.

Police and paramedics arrived but he was then airlifted to hospital by the North West air ambulance which landed on nearby Alexandra Park as concerned locals looked on.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the attack, which was reported at 5.30pm, or anyone with any other information about the circumstances, to get in touch.

No arrests have so far been made, a spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police saying that the inquiry was at a very early stage.
