Lunt, of Vicarage Road, appeared before Manchester and Salford magistrates charged with causing mother-of-five Mrs Gilchrist’s death by careless or inconsiderate driving.

The 67-year-old has pleaded not guilty to the single charge and the bench released her on unconditional bail.

Mrs Gilchrist, who was in her 80s, was fatally injured when she was hit by a Volvo C30 on Vicarage Road on the morning of July 25 last year.

Police at the time said that the car had been reversing out of its drive when the collision took place.

A case management hearing will now take place on July 31.

No trial date has been set.
