Police appeal after man suffers 'life-changing' injuries in crash in Wigan

Police are appealing for information after a man sustained "life-changing" injuries in a crash in Wigan.

Emergency services were called to Walkden Avenue East in Swinley after a collision involving three vehicles at 1.45pm on Monday.

A blue Volkswagon Polo was travelling along Walkden Avenue towards the junction of Kenyon Road when it collided with a white Mercedes C220. The Polo then crashed into a second vehicle – a white Vauxhall Astra – on Walkden Avenue East.

A 33-year-old man, who was a passenger in the Polo, was taken to hospital with life-changing leg injuries. He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, no insurance and driving without a license. He has since been released under investigation.

PC Adam Scott, of Greater Manchester Police's serious collision investigation unit, said: “This was a serious collision in which a man sustained life-changing injuries.

“Did you see the vehicles driving in the area prior to the collision? Did you witness the collision?

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time or has any information, dash-cam or CCTV footage which may assist us to get in touch.”
