The hearing was told that instead of co-operating, Boswell took his drink into the lavatories.

The member of door staff followed him and tried to take the drink from him at which point Boswell punched the man to the side of the face.

The court heard he then dragged the victim to the floor where he landed a blow to his head with his knee.

Prosecutors said that the doorman suffered bruising and abrasions to his face and head and also needed treatment for a swollen ankle.

Boswell had already pleaded guilty to causing the man actual bodily harm when he appeared before Wigan and Leigh magistrates who then sent the case to crown court for sentencing.

The judge gave him a 12-month jail term but suspended it for two years. He was also ordered to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work and was given a rehabilitation activity order with a requirement to complete 25 activity sessions.
