Thieves smash their way into Wigan homes in spate of burglaries

Thieves have been smashing their way into homes in a Wigan community to steal jewellery.

Police said the thieves enter the properties in Hindley by the back doors which are then forced open or windows smashed.

Once inside the offenders then ransack the homes and take away jewellery in a pillowcase from the address.

Officers are investigating and are now urging the public to be vigilant and think of security.

GMP Leigh, Atherton & Hindley said on Facebook: "Police urge the public to be vigilant and use timers and alarms when out."
