Two arrested after police officer assaulted at house in borough

A man and a woman were taken into custody, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) reported on social media on Thursday evening.

Officers attended an address on Maple Crescent in Leigh following reports of damage.

While they were there offenders smashed the property's rear windows.

Police used a Taser and there was a brief struggle, during which one officer was assaulted.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage while a 32-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

Enquiries into the incident, which was posted on the GMP Leigh, Atherton and Hindley page on Facebook, are ongoing.
