Two men arrested on suspicion of murder after man dies in Wigan

Police were called by the ambulance service to reports of concern for a man in the gardens of Wigan Parish Church on Bishopgate shortly before 7.50pm on Thursday (August 6)

A man died at the scene and an investigation has been launched into his death.

Two men – aged 19 and 29 – have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody for questioning.

An area of the church had to be cordoned off and there was a large emergency presence with police and an air ambulance scrambled.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses who saw a group of men in the area between 7pm-7.30pm, or anyone acting suspiciously nearby, to contact them.
