Three men, one of whom had a crowbar, forced their way into a house on Chapel Green Road in Hindley at around 3.20pm on Sunday.

Two of them shouted at a 44-year-old woman, demanding to know where a safe was.

Police said one of the men held her by the neck and punched her numerous times in the face, while the second man looked for the safe.

The third man hit a 14-year-old boy with a stool, pushed him to the ground and stole a mobile phone he was holding.

The robbers also took the woman's phone from her hand, before heading into the garden with the mobile phones, an iPad, jewellery and cash.

The woman went outside and saw the men in the shed.

She was hit on the head with a tool box they had stolen, as they ran past her onto Chapel Green Road, in the direction of Argyle Street.

Emergency services attended and the woman was treated by paramedics, but did not need to go to hospital.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for information about what happened. No arrests have yet been made.

All three men wore face coverings during the burglary.

The first man was described as having dark hair and brown eyes, the second had ginger hair and the third was described as a mixed-race man who was wearing grey shorts and Nike Air Max trainers.

Det Con Sean Goddard, of Greater Manchester Police's Wigan division, said: “These victims were subjected to a terrifying ordeal in their own home which has left them feeling unsafe and scared.

“The criminality and level of violence shown by the offenders is despicable and we are doing everything we can to find those responsible.

Even the smallest piece of information could prove vital in helping police to complete their investigation.”
