Wigan justices heard Bobby Shaw was subject to a disqualification when police stopped his Peugeot 307 on Field Street on April 10. It emerged that the 30-year-old of Carlyle Grove, Leigh, had actually bought the vehicle since he had been banned.

Justices saw this as an aggravating feature along with past convictions and sentenced him to eight weeks’ jail but suspended the term for a year. He must also pay a victim services surcharge and court costs totalling £213.
