This morning, the BBC Crimewatch Roadshow aired a reconstruction of the attempted murder of Ricky Price which took place on September 19 last year. Mr Price was driving into Wigan with his three-year-old twin grandsons.

The appeal film can be viewed on the BBC Crimewatch Roadshow website His Range Rover was stationary at traffic lights in Bickershaw Lane, when a black Audi S3 using false plates pulled up alongside his car.

The men in the car fired two shots - the second nearly severed Ricky’s arm, but thankfully both missed the twins in the back seat.

Mr Price was blasted at close range with a shotgun before the getaway car sped off in the direction of Abram. The getaway car sped off in the direction of Abram. The vehicle and its occupants have never been found.

Yesterday, GMP detectives appeared on Crimewatch to launch a fresh appeal for information, including an interview with Mr Price and issuing CCTV footage of the getaway vehicle.

The chilling footage also showed the suspects’ Audi S3 prowling the streets in the minutes leading up to the attack; its occupants deliberately on the hunt for Mr Price.

The Audi could be seen stopping in its tracks and performing a U-turn in the middle of the road after Mr Price’s car passed in the opposite direction. Seconds later, it pulled up alongside him and opened fire.

Speaking on the show, Mr Price said his arm was “shattered in bits” and it took 21 hours of surgery to save it.

He also branded his attackers “psychopaths in the middle of the street, blasting guns” while parents with prams and young children were just metres away.

The appeal resulted in some “promising calls” over the shooting, presenter Rav Wilding said at the end of the episode, but police still need as much information as possible. A cash reward of £10,000 will be given to anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest or conviction.
