A man accused of breaking into a supermarket and stealing £5,000 will have his case heard by a judge and jury.

Shaun Liptrot, 40, of Willow Road, Beech Hill, is alleged to have been involved in a burglary at Tesco Express in Whelley on November 25, 2018.

He pleaded not guilty when he appeared at Wigan Magistrates’ Court. The case was sent for trial at Bolton Crown Court on April 1.

Liptrot is also charged with attempting to steal money from a parking meter on Wigan Lane on November 5, 2019.

Jason Kelly, 34, of Crompton Street, Scholes, appeared in the dock alongside him, accused of the same offence.

Both men entered not guilty pleas and will be tried by magistrates on May 18. They were both remanded on unconditional bail until then.
