Wigan man charged with stealing items from an ambulance as paramedics responded to 999 call

A Wigan man is accused of smashing his way into an ambulance and stealing items from inside while paramedics were treating a patient nearby.

The emergency services were responding to an incident at Crompton House in Scholes on February 19, when a man broke into the ambulance cab and stole property.

A short time later, WHSmith in Standishgate was raided, with hundreds of pounds' worth of products being taken.

Yesterday (February 22), GMP's investigation into both crimes resulted in 36-year-old Clifford Faulkner being arrested and charged. He was remanded in police custody and was due to appear at Magistrates' Court today.

A statement from GMP on social media said: "On the evening of 19th February whilst an ambulance was responding to a 999 emergency call at Crompton House ,Scholes and paramedics were inside treating the patient an offender smashed his way into the cab of the ambulance entered and stole property.

"Shortly after a burglary took place at WH Smith in Wigan Town centre where several hundred pounds of products were stolen.

"Yesterday the 22nd February officers from Wigan Town centre and Scholes neighbourhood teams working with central watch combined to identify the suspect.

"Clifford Faulkner 36 of no fixed abode is has been arrested, charged and remanded in police custody for the offences and will appear in court today."
