The incident caused Sullivan's elderly dad to fear for his life, Wigan justices heard.
They imposed a four-month prison term but suspended it for 12 months.
Sullivan was also hit with a restraining order preventing him from contacting his parents or entering Delph Street for a year.
He must also observe a night-time curfew until November 9 and complete 20 days’ rehabilitation activities.
The chair of the bench told Sullivan: “You caused serious distress to your parents and this had a significant impact upon them.”
