Michal Lewandowski, 34, of Lark Field Close, Astley, appeared before Wigan justices to admit driving his Honda Civic in Tyldesley while under the influence.

The hearing was told he had 135 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35. The bench imposed an eight-week custodial sentence, saying it was warranted because of the high alcohol reading and that the daytime incident happened when children were nearby.

However they suspended the jail term for 12 months. Lewandowski was also banned from driving for 32 month, he, must carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and pay costs and a surcharge totalling £207.
