A man who smashed a Wigan discount store’s windows, stole two vacuum cleaners and wielded a knife in a cafe has been jailed for six months.

Clifford Faulkner, 36, of Marsh Green, Marsh Green, appeared in the dock at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court for sentence, having admitted at an earlier hearing that he caused £3,350 damage to the frontage of Wilko on Standishgate, taking the two domestic appliances and having a bladed weapon in neighbouring Caffe Nero on October 21.

The bench told him that custody was warranted for the offences because he had had been armed with a knife in a public place, he had shown aggression in smashing the window and because of his previous criminal record.
