He had initially denied the charges and others concerning the taking of vehicles, but changed his pleas to guilty before a trial took place.

The hearing was told that the racially-aggravated assaults against the woman and her 15-month-old son took place close to their home.

The mother was woken during the night on November 16 last year by noises and saw the defendant and two others using a metal bar to damage a friend’s car.

Prosecutors said the following morning there was an argument between the teen and the owner of the car over the damage that had been caused.

Hearing the noise, the female victim came out of her home holding her child, at which point the defendant said to her “Go away from here you foreign *****. Tonight I will burn your house and car.”

The youth then threw a metal bar at the woman, hitting both her and her baby son on the arm.

Justices heard that theactual bodily harm assault to which the youth pleaded guilty took place on October 28 outside the McDonalds branch in Platt Bridge.

The victim had turned up to collect a takeaway and saw youths were throwing items around in car park.

Concerned that these missiles might hurt someone or damage property, the victim confronted the group to remonstrate with them.

At this point the defendant threw a 1m length plank of wood with nails in it at the man, which struck a glancing blow to the head and caused him to fall.

The teen also admitted to three other offences.

Two involved stealing the keys to a Jeep Compass in Hindley and then using the vehicle without the owner’s consent.

And the other was the taking of a Honda motorcycle, also in Hindley, on February 3 this year.

The court heard that the offences took place while the boy was already the subject of a youth rehabilitation order.

For the racially-aggravated attacks on the mother and child he was given two eight-month detention and training orders to run concurrently.

For the McDonald’s attack he was given a four-month order to run concurrently with the other sentences. And for the key and vehicle offences he was given two four-month orders to run concurrently with each other, but consecutively to the other sentences, so in total the order lasts 12 months.
