A woman motorist four times over the legal drink-drive limit has narrowly avoided jail.

Wigan justices heard that this was the second time Lindsey Glover had been found to be under the influence of alcohol while at the wheel. The 41-year-old of Lonsdale Walk, Orrell, was stopped by police close to their headquarters on Robin Park Road on August 21. And when the occupant of the Volksagen was tested she gave a reading of 138 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.

The bench gave her a 12-week prison term, but suspended it for 18 months, saying that not to lock her up would help her address her liquor misuse problems. However, she was banned from the road for four years and has £213 to pay to victim services and the court.
