A man has been ordered to carry out unpaid work after he admitted assaulting a woman and smashing her £400 phone.

Paul McCann, 43, of Greenfield Avenue, Higher Ince, appeared before Wigan and Leigh magistrates to plead guilty to attacking Beverley McGuire and criminal damage.

He was told he must stump up £175 in court costs and a victim services surcharge but the bench did not order him to pay compensation after hearing that the two parties were reconciled.

A woman will be sentenced next month after admitting she harassed a man.

Michelle Pasquille, 35, of Bright Street, Leigh, appeared before Wigan magistrates to plead guilty to repeatedly harassing James Bannister over several months and also to drunken and disorderly behaviour in Hope Carr Road on June 2.

The bench heard that Pasquille had attended her victim’s home on multiple occasions demanding money and other items. She was bailed until her sentencing hearing on July 2 on condition that she does not approach Mr Bannister nor enter Hope Carr Road.

Two women have appeared before Wigan magistrates to admit shoplifting.

Geanina Mustafa, 22, and Florina Muti, 20, both pleaded guilty to stealing garments and food on two pilfering visits to the Asda hypermarket in Newtown.

The women, whose addresses were listed as “unknown” but are Romanian nationals, went to the store on June 7 and 10, the court heard, stealing £132 worth of clothes on the first occasion and on the second taking meat and more clothing totalling £258.67.

They were granted unconditional bail until they return to the court on July 2 to be sentenced.

A man has been accused of banking £1,500 worth of benefits to which he wasn’t entitled.

Kieron Jones, 34, of Browning Avenue, Wigan, is charged with failing to cancel two credit payments to which he had been wrongfully paid.

His case was adjourned to September 14. Jones has yet to plead.
