Preston Magistrates Court heard Gareth Crook, 33, of Morris Road, Ribbleton, Preston, had flown into a rage when he was refused entry at the Baluga Bar.

Police officers witnessed his behaviour outside the club on Lancaster Road at around 8.40pm on June 12.

Prosecuting, Scott Ainge said: “The door supervisor did not engage with him. The defendant then launched into a tirade of racist abuse.

“He walked to the other side of the road while continuing the abuse.

“As he was near the Stanley Arms pub he saw a woman of Asian appearance and shouted ‘What are you staring at?” before calling her a racist name.”

Crook told police in interview that the doorman had refused to let him in and called him a “white tramp”, but police said they never heard the doorman refer to him in those terms, Mr Ainge said.

Crook, who represented himself in court, said: “I was under the influence of alcohol. I wish I had been the bigger man and kept my mouth shut. I wish I had just walked away.”

He added he had lost his job of six weeks as a parcel courier.

The bench told him his behaviour was “unpalatable and totally unacceptable”.

They ordered him to pay a £70 fine, £20 surcharge, £85 costs and a £150 court charge.

He admitted causing racially aggravated harrasment or distress, putting him in breach of a conditional discharge.
