Elderly Wigan motorcyclist dies six weeks after collision

A Wigan pensioner has died weeks after sustaining serious injuries in a motorcycle accident.

Police are now appealing for fresh information after issuing the tragic update on the incident, which occurred on Saturday 30 May 2020. Police were called at around 5.pm to reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and a car on Almond Brook Road, Standish.

Officers attended and established that a Honda motorcycle and a Ford Fiesta had collided near the junction with Arbour Lane.

The motorcyclist – a 72-year-old man was taken to hospital with leg injuries. He sadly died as a result of his injuries on Wednesday 15 July 2020.

An investigation is underway.

The driver of the Fiesta stopped at the scene.

No arrests have been made.

PC Sarah Seddon, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Sadly, six weeks after this collision, the motorcyclist has died from his injuries. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this devastating time.

“An investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and I appeal to anyone with information or dash cam footage which may assist us with our enquiries to get in touch with us.”
