Emergency roadworks shut down borough road

Astley Street in Tyldesley is currently closed between Elliot Street and Upper George Street, so that emergency roadworks can be carried out. Pictures from the scene show a large fenced-off area in the middle of the road.

Bus services such as the V2 guided busway service are currently being diverted, and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has urged commuters to check updates on their journeys before setting off.

Wigan Council said the road is expected to reopen around midday today, Friday March 12.
