Firefighter and child cut free from car following collision
An off-duty firefighter was rescued from a vehicle today after a road traffic collision.
A crew from Hindley fire station was dispatched to Bridgewater Street, Hindley, shortly after 1pm today (Sunday November 22) following reports of a collision involving a Honda Civic.
A crew member told Wigan Today that the car was pulling out onto Bridgewater Street from a side road, when a passing vehicle struck its front end.
The impact caused the driver and their young passenger to become trapped inside, they said.
On arrival at the scene, the fire crews worked to cut open the roof to free the child and driver, who was an off-duty firefighter themselves. Their injuries are thought to be minor.
The crew began leaving the scene at 2.26pm.
