Foundation would be lasting legacy for Cameron

Hundreds of people have paid tribute to the schoolboy since he died, with many placing flowers and releasing balloons on Helvellyn Road, Norley, where he was fatally injured.

Donations have been pouring in to an online appeal set up by family friend Joanne Neill to help pay for the 15-year-old’s funeral, which will be held on Thursday.

His mum Stacey said she had taken comfort from the support from all of Cameron’s friends and family.

And she hopes to make a real difference in the future by setting up the Cameron Chadwick Foundation.

She has many ideas for helping other young people.

Stacey said: “There are teenagers on these estates and there is nothing to do. It will always bring back what happened to Cameron and that will make them stop and think.”

The foundation will do work in the community or schools to raise awareness of the dangers that young people can face, as well as help other families in similar situations, such as with funeral costs.

Stacey said: “I wondered if we could set up a little hub for teenagers. There’s a lot for kids and families. I know the community will volunteer and I will.

“I have Cameron’s TV and Xbox and I know he would like them there.”

There could be advice on offer to young people and days out would be organised.

There are also plans for a bench in Cameron’s memory.

The foundation will be started using money remaining from the online appeal.

But other money will be raised to give a boost.

Pure Nightclub, in Wigan town centre, will hold a special tribute night for Cameron on Thursday March 9.

There will be hot dogs, drinks, a raffle and hopefully an appearance by a special guest.

Staff and pupils at Abraham Guest Academy, which Cameron attended, are doing their bit to remember him and raise money.

Stacey said: “Abraham Guest Academy have been absolutely phenomenal.

“They have absolutely blown us away.”

A series of fundraisers have been held at the school this week to celebrate Cameron’s life.

They included a cake sale, trampolining, a cross bar challenge and a day where pupils wore blue.

Some of his close friends sang his favourite songs to a crowded arts theatre in his memory, with donations made on the door.

And today the whole school will gather for a balloon release, with every pupil in his year group given a balloon to remember Cameron.

There are also plans for a memorial wall in the school, which will eventually be used to create a scrapbook for Cameron’s family.

Tracy Benjafield, head of year 10, said: “Abraham Guest Academy are incredibly proud of our pupils’ exceptional conduct and understanding through what has been a very emotionally difficult time. Cameron was an extremely popular young man and this has been highlighted by the outpouring of tributes and donations received.”
