A 16-year-old girl was placed on a spinal board before being taken to hospital.

Her condition is described as critical.

The 17-year-old driver has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

A third passenger left the area before the emergency services arrived.

The car, which was written off in the incident, demolished a section of wall to the left of a gate pillar, with bricks ending up around 20 metres from where the vehicle came to a halt.

Sgt Mark Thomas from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or the car in the lead up to the collision to contact police to help with our enquiries.”

A referral has been made to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) due to earlier police contact.

Watch manager Isaac Olurankinse from Hindley fire station said: “When we got there one girl was sat at the side of the road being treated by a trauma tech and the other girl was quite poorly. We helped the paramedics to get her on a spinal board and trolley.

“The car was quite badly damaged, all the windows had smashed and the airbags had gone off.

“It had hit the wall in front of a house to one side of the gate pillar.”
