Help catch window kicker

Police are investigating the incident at Sapphire Homes on Market Street in the early hours of March 20.

The footage clearly show a man walking up to the building, kicking the window several times until it smashed before leaving the scene.

It left Sapphire with a hefty bill to pay and the company, alongside police, has released CCTV images of the man who is wanted in connection with the incident.

Managing director Ella Bristow has today appealed for information and is asking if anyone recognises the man in the images.

She said: “It’s just a senseless and stupid act of vandalism which is infuriating.

“The CCTV shows a man walking up from the direction of Wigan and Leigh College who appears to be having an argument on his mobile phone.

“He ended up kicking the window about 11 times until it smashed.

“I’ve no idea why he does it but he just makes off afterwards.

“I’ve spoke to the police and they are going to circulate the images we have got on their Facebook.

“We’ve studied it carefully and we don’t recognise him so it must just be a random incident.

“It’s come at a cost to us though, we’ve had to fork out £1,200 to get the window repaired so we want the person responsible caught.”

Sadly, this isn’t the first time Sapphire Homes has been the victim of mindless vandalism.

In a similar incident, another window was smashed by two people but they were caught instantly thanks to CCTV.

Ella added: “The last time it happened was between Christmas and New Year.

“Luckily they were caught at the time because the CCTV was being monitored.

“They rang the police and they were arrested.

“Hopefully someone recognises this CCTV image and can help track down the person responsible.”

Police are now appealing for anyone with any information to come forward by calling them on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
