As exclusively revealed in the Wigan Observer the M6 Epic 110+ site, a joint venture between db symmetry and Legal and General Property, is located in South Lancs Industrial Estate at Ashton-in-Makerfield.

The site comprises 110,000 sq ft of space and is now attracting the attention of major operators.

The distribution centre is immediately available on a To Let basis and has planning permission to expand a further 70,000ft sq.

As well as the huge warehouse space the building includes 10 level access doors and two drive-in doors, 22 trailer spaces, 122 car parking spaces, modern office facilities and is just 2.5 miles from junction 25 of the M6.

Coun David Molyneux, Wigan Council’s Deputy Leader, said: “A new logistics centre like this shows the confidence that people are having developing in Wigan and bringing industry to Wigan.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to create more jobs in the borough.

“Location-wise we are good if not better than a lot of areas in the North West due to our proximity to the national motor network.

“We are also committed to investing in improving our own infrastructure to attract investment, support businesses and the growth of our local economy.

“I’m really proud that we are seeing developments like this and it certainly shows that Wigan is moving in the right direction and that people have the confidence to develop here.”

Andrew Dickman, director of db symmetry, said the facility will be attractive to national distributors possibly in the retail or home improvement sector.

He said: “Wigan works very well for logistics and distribution developments thanks to its proximity to the M6 as the main artery through the north of England.

“There is also an excellent workforce here which businesses recognise and want to employ.”

The new centre is situated next to the new Poundland logistics centre which is currently under construction and once completed will cover 30,000m sq on the former land of Georgia Pacific, Lockett Road.

This centre, which the joint venture also worked on, has the potential to create up to 800 jobs in the coming years.

The Poundland centre will create a wide range of skilled jobs both full-time and part-time as well as apprenticeships.

The joint venture was also behind the neighbouring development of the Compagnie Fruitiere banana ripening factory.
